Greetings from the Director of Public Safety
Dear citizens and visitors to the City of Manistique: The Manistique Public Safety Department is a “full service” public safety department, providing police, fire, and EMS response and protection in service to our community. The department consists of three divisions; Public Safety Officers (certified in Police, Fire, and EMS), the Manistique Volunteer Fire Department, and the EMS division, supported by four ambulances offering Advanced Life Support with our Paramedics, EMT Specialists, and Basic EMT’s.
I am proud to tell you that our department has a total of 54 qualified and dedicated personnel to assist the public with their emergencies or other issues within our expertise. We also have specialized capacities, including a police K-9 unit, water and ice rescue capabilities, and snowmobile or ORV accident response. We are also supported in a team effort by the Michigan State Police, Schoolcraft County Sheriffs Department, Sault Tribal Police Department, Michigan Conservation Officers and six township fire departments located throughout Schoolcraft County.
Therefore, I want you to feel welcome and safe in our city which is a great place to live, raise a family, start a business or to just visit, shop, and relax as you enjoy our beautiful area. The Mission of the Manistique Department of Public Safety is to protect our community through proactive law enforcement; by promoting a safe and secure environment, to protect persons and property, to maintain order, and educate the community concerning crime prevention methods; to save lives, and protect property through exemplary fire education, preparedness, prevention and response; and to provide quality Emergency Medical Services to the community, preserving life, improving health, and promoting safety.
The Manistique Public Safety Department is a combination Police, Fire, and EMS department serving the citizens of the City of Manistique, and greater Schoolcraft County.
