Historic Manistique

The City of Manistique was basically built in the late 1800s. Today many unique shops, stores and restaurants make up the downtown.

Lakeview Cemetery

The Lakeview Cemetery is an older cemetery which started with burials in the 1800’s. The first cemetery was located about where Manistique Papers is today, and it was moved from that site as industry grew along the river, to the east side of town, where Curran’s parking lot is today. Finally in the late 1800’s it was moved to its current location the highest area in Manistique, which boast an exhilarating view on a sunny day of the Great lake Michigan. The Cemetery is still operating today, and is also owned and operated by the City of Manistique. Many visitors love to sift through the historical headstones of long ago.

Manistique’s Boardwalk

The Boardwalk in Manistique is just over two miles long and winds it’s way along the shore of Lake Michigan. Whether you walk it for fun, for exercise, or just to take in the fresh air, we can promise you a unique walk. Interpretive signs along the way explain the saw dust on the beach from logging days gone by, to the wild flowers that fill the spring air with fragrances. From the tree lined pathways to the open views of the harbor, lighthouse, and bridges crossing the little creeks you will enjoy the time you spend there.
